Volleyball team sweeps away pair of Big Ten rivals

The Ohio State women’s volleyball team swept a pair of Big Ten rivals, Purdue and Indiana, this weekend.      In the first set against the Boilermakers, it was unclear which team had the stronger game. After just two errors, the Buckeyes established their rhythm. Full story

Volleyball team hosts pair of Big Ten foes

The No. 36 Ohio State women’s volleyball team is now one of seven Big Ten squads in the Top 40.  They are ranked above the No. 40 Purdue Boilermakers and No. 67 Indiana Hoosiers, their two opponents this weekend.      Their rise in the rankings is a result of the Buckeyes defeating Michigan State in East Lansing, 3-1, last weekend. OSU field hockey bounced from NCAA’s

The Ohio State field hockey team’s season came to an end with a loss to North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA tournament Saturday. North Carolina jumped on the Buckeyes early and amassed a 3-0 first-half lead, which proved to be insurmountable. Full story

Ohio State loses in conference tournament, awaits postseason status

The Ohio State field hockey team made an early exit from the Big Ten Tournament after being upset by Penn State Thursday in East Lansing, Mich. The Buckeyes had high aspirations, entering the tournament as the No. 2 seed after finishing 4-2 in the Big Ten. Full story

Cross Country

Cross country teams earn bids to NCAA Tournament

Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams are going to the 2009 NCAA Championship meet in Terra Haute, Ind., Nov. 23. Junior and women’s distance runner Jordan Jennewine said last week that the team’s goal at the NCAA Regional Championship meet was a second-place finish. Full story

Ohio State’s men’s and women’s cross country teams will be competing at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship meet with different goals. There were bittersweet results for the men’s and women’s cross country teams this weekend at Pre-Nationals. The women’s team finished 11th out of 37 teams, and the men’s team finished 22nd out of 35 teams. Men's lacrosse elects captains

As the Ohio State men’s lacrosse team ended preseason action, the team voted on the 2010 team captains.  Seniors Scott Foreman, Brandon Freeman and Andrew Stimmel received the honor to lead the team.  Foreman is no stranger to the leadership position. Full story

Charitable offseason keeps men's lacrosse team busy

In just two weekends of preseason action, the Ohio State men’s lacrosse team has done more than most teams do all season. Coach Nick Meyers has jump started preseason play with a “Thumbs Up,” two weekends full of fundraising for athletic scholarship funds near and dear to the Buckeyes’ hearts. Full story

Ohio State rugby advances to conference semifinals

Just as Terrelle Pryor and the Ohio State football team marched out of Happy Valley with a win on Saturday, the “other” football squad — OSU men’s rugby — performed lights-out on a big stage, defeating Northern Iowa 44-20 and securing itself a place in Saturday’s conference semifinals. Full story

Rugby rising up sports ladder

Rugby is a sport in which 30 men with no pads get on a 100-yard field and clobber each other in the defense of their “Try Zone.” It is a game of high-contact hits, but also 50-yard dazzling runs; a game of contradictions — violence one second and finesse moves the next — and a game where ball control, defense, scrums, passes, long runs, goal line stands and power hits all come into play.
