Justin Sheridan grew up watching his mother juggle a full-time job and a family.
His mother's struggle to have it all as a senior planning manager in corporate America prompted his participation in the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum.
"Both of my parents worked," said Sheridan, a senior in marketing. "They had to take turns picking us up from school."
Sheridan's research found that improving work conditions by offering options, such as child care and paid maternity leave allow more women to climb the corporate ladder.
The thirteenth annual Denman Forum took place Wednesday in the Recreation and Physical Activities Center.
This year's Denman Forum included 374 research projects in 11 categories.
Some categories were biological sciences, humanities and psychology. The Denman Forum, which occupied two basketball gyms, is open to Ohio State students of any major.
"It has been successful for a lot of the students who participate," said Vicki Pitstick, coordinator of the Denman Forum. "It provides them all with a great experience."
This year's forum hosted a wide variety of research projects including cancer defects in mice, the efficiency of Major League Baseball batters and healthy lifestyles in college students.
Each student project is judged three times by separate judges. Once all projects are judged, first, second and third place winners are chosen in each category.
According to Pitstick, more than 70 area high school students attended this year's forum.
"We invite local high school students in advanced placement classes and their teachers to come and watch the competition," Pitstick said.
This year's forum awarded $22,000 to winners in each category, as well as Denman medals.
