The total number of category four and five hurricanes has almost doubled in the last 30 years, animals are moving closer to the poles and malaria is spreading rapidly to places up to 7,000 ft above sea level. This information and more can be found in former Vice President Al Gore's book and documentary "An Inconvenient Truth."

Gore's popular documentary explains the concept of global warming and what individuals can do to help.

He will visit Ohio State on Sunday May 4 at the Schottenstein Center to discuss his message about global warming and ways to take action. Tickets went on sale yesterday at the Schottenstein Center Box Office and Ticketmaster locations, according to a press release. The cost of a single ticket is $37.50 plus service charges, which might be expensive for the typical college student.

Alexia Dillard, a sophomore in dental hygiene, said she probably would not go because of the price of tickets.

"Senator Obama came to OSU and it was free," she said. "I think $40 is a ridiculous amount to pay for the average college student."

Kate Christobek, Undergraduate Student Government president, said she was thrilled that Gore chose to visit OSU.

"Since being vice president of the United States, Al Gore has become a well renowned environmentalist and helped start our country's discussion on global warming and the future of our planet," she said.

James Hamil, a graduate student in electrical and computer engineering, disagreed.

"I'm actually a little skeptical about Al Gore and global warming," Hamil said. "I really don't know who he is trying to target, but college students more than likely will not pay that much for a ticket."

It's absolutely ridiculous that he would come to a major university to speak, only to price out the people most likely to want to attend. Who sets the ticket prices? Is the stuff they are smoking causing global warming?

I love the 10+ year-old stock photo, by the way!

It is free for students... and students get 2! I don't understand why students are complaining about the cost

$40 would be a bit steep... good thing student tickets are FREE so that "average college student" does in fact have the opportunity to attend. Funny how that was already taken into consideration. (Continued…)

I still stand by the idea of them paying us to listen to that nut job

Way to get your facts straight Lantern. Students are eligible for two free tickets from the OUAB. The announcement states: "Two FREE tickets per student with a valid Columbus campus Buck-ID will be available beginning Monday, April 21st at 5:00pm. (Continued…)

So, perhaps the fact that students could get 2 free tickets was important enough to put in the article? Wonder why it wasn't there?

Besides, Al needs money to buy carbon credits from himself so he can continue to pollute. (Continued…)

Yup, the old globe is warming up. But wait a while, it will cool off again. To think that humans can affect the planet is the height of egocentricity. (Continued…)
